Matt Walsh, The Daily Wire reporter, revealed the truth about the gay couple in the Masterpiece Cakeshop case.
And the truth is that they are not the victims, as the media would like you to believe, but ‘vindictive bullies’ who want to destroy other lives.
In the Supreme Court, Tuesday morning in Masterpiece Cakeshop v. Colorado Civil Rights Commission was argued that the religious conservatives who pushed for Amendment 2 sought to undermine civil rights protections in another way — by claiming that the Constitution gives them the right to discriminate against gay people.
All started when Lakewood baker Jack Phillips refused to provide a cake for a same-sex wedding. The couple filed a complaint with the Colorado Civil Rights Commission, which said that Phillips violated the Colorado Anti-Discrimination Act (CADA). Phillips defended himself by saying that using CADA to force him to use his artistic talents to bake a cake for same-sex couples violated his constitutional rights to free speech and religious conscience.
But this case is not only for cake, it is a battle between religion and speech rights that conservatives claim on one hand, and LGBT rights, contraceptive access and compliance with health-care laws on the other. Many justices were sympathetic to the baker, Noel Francisco, President Trump’s new solicitor general, argued that leaving the law intact would mean that an African American sculptor can be forced to create a cross for a Ku Klux Klan event if he made crosses for the general public.
Jack Phillips, a devout Christian, who owns a bakery called Masterpiece Cakeshop, is no longer permitted to make cakes because a few years ago he declined to decorate a cake for a gay wedding.
This is one of the most important Supreme Court cases in history. The First Amendment is on trial, not Jack Phillips. If Phillips loses, free speech is successfully destroyed in this country.
When First Amendment rights are pitted against LGBT rights, First Amendment rights should always win.
In this situation Phillips is the real victim, he is a hardworking Christian who didn’t want to be in the center of a national controversy. He just wanted to run his business and make cakes. His life was normal until Mullins and Craig came into his bakery.
Either way, they’re the bullies here. They’re the villains of this drama. Phillips is an innocent man fighting for his right to live and work in peace, and in accordance with his faith.
